On November 12, 2015, the Minister of Justice Thea Tsulikiani met students at Grigol Robakidze University. The guest introduces the innovative project for the Georgian legislation “Juvenile Justice Code”. The Rector of the University, Mr. Mamuka Tavkhelidze, professor and students attended the event.
The mentioned code considers making the justice system in accordance with UN convention on protecting children’s rights and specialized, European standards for juveniles under 18.
Ms. Tsulukiani spoke in details about the news concerning the investigation of cases of juveniles under 18; also about those approaches that are being implemented towards victim, witness and accused children.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions and express their opinions about the new system of juvenile justice as well as EU-Georgia relations, obligations considered by the Association Agenda and protecting women’s rights.
It’s my second visit at Grigol Robakidze University. This time we spoke about the Juvenile Justice Code which is novelty and an innovative text in criminal justice. I am very happy that this meeting was held in a new, splendid campus. It gives me hope that new generation will continue our work and contribute significantly to the country's development, - stated the Minister.
